Dr Bisi Akin-Alabi, is the immediate past Special Adviser to the Governor of  Oyo State on Education, Science and Technology and has over 20 years’ post qualification experience as an educator, administrator and education consultant. She is passionate about creating a sustainable learning culture and access to equitable and qualitative education for all in Nigeria

She is the founder of SchoolRun Consult, an education and training consultancy firm focused on achieving excellence in education and training through the development of quality provisions and opportunities for the nation’s teeming youths. SchoolRun Consult offers exceptional quality services for the education sector, designing appropriate interventions and direct implementation of turnaround strategies and solutions. She is also the Publisher of SchoolRun Magazine, the first indigenous educational quarterly for parents, education practitioners and those aspiring to build a career in the education and learning sector

Bisi, a graduate of the University of Lagos, South Bank University Business School, London where she obtained her Masters’ in Business Administration (MBA) in 1994 and a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) from the Roehampton Institute, University College, London has significant knowledge and experience of the teaching profession and was recognised at 10 Downing Street, London in March 2001 by the then British Prime Minister, Rt Hon Tony Blair and his wife Cherie Blair, QC in recognition of her contribution to Excellence in Education and Childcare in the United Kingdom In addition to teaching Mathematics and Science in mainstream schools throughout the United Kingdom for over 20 years, Bisi also founded and managed 5 (Five) Child Care Centres in London, England. She waa committee of the Harrow Local Education Authority Early Years and Child Development Partnership (an organisation similar to the State Universal Education Board in Nigeria) where she had responsibility for school safety, staff recruitment, funding and benchmarking for all schools in the London Borough of Harrow. Bisi was involved in developing and running different intervention workshops in Mathematics and Science, Out of School learning initiatives for young children aged 5 to 18, and a facilitator for the Windsor Fellowship, an organisation targeting higher attainments for Black minority children in the United Kingdom.

In pursuit of her passion for excellence in education and to ensure a wholesome offering to reposition Education in Oyo State, she conceived and implemented the much acclaimed OYOMESI initiative which is an acronym for Oyo State

Model Education System Interventions with a vision “to raise competent  civil citizens”. The OYOMESI approach in its general sense is to use short term interventional strategies & principles to find solutions for a better education system that influence the teachers, pupils, parents attitudes focus, beliefs for the pursuits of a wholesome education offerings. One of such interventional strategies was the launch of the first ever OYOMESI Festival of Learning  which took place last year in Ibadan and offered interactive and varied activities and workshops for different target audiences, thereby reinforcing the concept of lifelong learning in the State. This amongst others culminated in the recent announcement of Ibadan as one of the winners of the 2019 UNESCO Learning  City Award by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL). Other relevant interventions that changed the face and narrative of Education in the State are listed below:

  • Initiated and developed a functional OYOMESI Edu-Portal – www.oyomesischools.com.ng
  • The Introduction of the Microsoft Imagine Academy with Signal Alliance
  • The WAEC Boot Camps in Key Subject Areas
  • Conducted 16 Train the Trainer sessions for 4,600 teachers for the implementation of the WAEC BOOT CAMP programme
  • First Bank of Nigeria sponsored OYOMESI Financial Literacy Programme for Pupils, Teachers and Parents
  • Launched the 1 st OYOMESI Children’s Conference in 2017
  • The 1 st OYOMESI Environmental Hackathon in collaboration with WestAfricaENRG
  • The launch of various OYOMESI Digital Village Project Centres with ATC Nigeria
  • Rollout of a functional Exam Revision Mobile Application tagged OYOMESISeries App• Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workshops in conjunction with STEM METS RESOURCES, an Airbus Foundation  partner
  • Various out of State Education Enrichment Trips and Exchange Programmes abroad
  • Implemented the OYOMESI Job Experience Scheme (OJE) involving over 300 pupils aged 14 to 18 years in placements across the State
  • Launch of the first ever OYOMESI COMPENDIUM OF HEROES
  • Capacity Building Conferences (CBC) and workshops for School Teachers, Pupils and Parents on School Safety
  • Organised a 2 week dedicated French Clinic in 3 centres in the State in Aug. 2017
  • Implemented the Cluster Learning Centre initiative across the State
  • Initiated the Teacher’s Professional Development & Incentive Scheme

These holistic strategic initiatives amongst others went a long way in raising attainment and improving the quality of education, put a stop to poor academic performance and has ensured that Oyo State regained it’s rightful place as a pace setter, front runner and leader in Education in Nigeria within a very short time Prior to her appointment as a Special Adviser, she was the School Safety Administrator for Lagos State, a project initiated by the Lagos State Safety Commission whereby she implemented systems and promoted a safety culture and compliance in all schools in the State Bisi has attended many international education conferences, workshops and exhibitions. In 2015, she was awarded a doctorate degree in Humanities (Child Development Psychology) by the prestigious London Graduate School and won the Women for Africa, UK International business women category award.

She is a member of the United Kingdom Strategic Society and a Fellow of the Windsor Fellowship UK, Fellow of the International Chartered Management Consultant, Fellow of Chartered Institute of Commerce of Nigeria. (FCICN) She is an avid reader and is married with grown children
